🌿 Nizoral (Ketoconazole Shampoo) 

✅ What It Is

A medicated shampoo containing the antifungal agent ketoconazole, effective against dandruff, seborrheic dermatitis, and fungal scalp conditions like tinea versicolor/pityriasis versicolor.

Ketoconazole inhibits the growth of Malassezia yeast—responsible for dandruff and similar scalp issues. It also helps reduce scalp inflammation and itching .

🧠 Added Benefits

• May slow androgenetic (pattern) hair loss due to anti-androgenic properties, although not FDA-approved for this purpose

• Often recommended alongside other hair-loss treatments like minoxidil.

📝 Usage & Dosage

• For dandruff/seborrheic dermatitis: apply twice weekly for 2–4 weeks, then use once every 1–2 weeks to maintain.

• For tinea versicolor: daily use for up to 5 days (treatment), or up to 3 days before sun exposure (prevention)

• Leave it on scalp for 3–5 minutes before rinsing.

Common

• Possible dryness, irritation, itching, abnormal hair texture, and mild hair loss in under 1% of users

Uncommon but Serious

• Allergic reactions such as rash, urticaria, or angioedema—discontinue use if these occur RxList.

Sensitive Groups
